Ladies, when was the last time you purchased a pair of boots? How about custom boots? Custom anything is expensive, but especially custom leather boots. Today I will present to you a Kickstarter that will conveniently allow you to order custom boots at the price of non-custom ones. Let me introduce you to the female entrepreneur behind it.
Farah Qurratuaini attends the Fashion Institute of New York where she is majoring in Production Management. Fashion has always led her in her entrepreneurial quests. In fact it all began at age 14 when she imported Adidas and Nike sneakers into her home country of Indonesia to sell to locals. This was her first business. Not too long after, she decided to create and brand her own shoe line. She began work on the project and reached out to several entrepreneurs via Twitter.
Surprised by her tenacity and age, about half a dozen of these entrepreneurs reached back out to her as mentors. One even arranged a speaking engagement for her in Bali. She has since spoken at other events, gained thousands of Twitter followers, and had her boots featured in a fashion magazine.
So, let’s talk boots. Flair Boots is the overarching brand of Qurratuaini’s creation. For her Kickstarter, the specific line offered is called Salwa Boots, and there are several style options to choose from. First and foremost, these are custom boots, meaning that you will need to provide various measurements so that the boots can be tailored to your specifics (including fitting your calves properly). The shoes utilize the just-in-time inventory method meaning that they are not prefabricated and waiting for a buyer. Instead, nothing begins until measurements are received and an order placed.
The shoes are hand-crafted in Indonesia using genuine leather, high-quality zippers, wood-fiber/leather heels, and hand-stitched soles. The color options are black, cream, dark Brown, light brown, maroon red, navy blue, and tan. There are three heels to choose from: flat, wedge or classic high-heel. Silhouettes offered are ankle, mid, and high. Pricing for backers begins at $120, $150, and $180 respectively.
Farah Qurratuaini choose Kickstarter because she was more familiar with it as opposed to its competitor Indiegogo. She also likes the feel of the platform. “I just like the positive energy from the backer community", she commented. Qurratuaini is part of a Kickstarter backer club and is very enthusiastic with everything crowdfunding.
Like all campaigns, Flair Boots has seen its ebb and flow of backers and it is during the lulls especially that she has to remind herself to keep pushing to get the word out to others. But it has been satisfying to see the community come together in support Flair.
The goal for the short term is to develop a website for people to utilize after the campaign’s conclusion. Qurratuaini also said that men’s shoes would be an eventual addition to the Flair Brand.
This young entrepreneur merits a solid POP from The Freshpreneur.
