Shaving in the morning used to be a ritual, handled with care. After gently applying shaving soap, with a well-rounded shaving brush, the sharp single blade would leave the skin feeling smooth. Now, we live in a fast-pace world, where taking the appropriate time to shave our face is no longer feasible. As we rush to quickly shave, it’s apparent that the simplicity of a single razor is not the most viable option. We need that 19 blade razor, which has also scheduled our meetings, made coffee, and ironed our shirt for us, so that we can get in and get out.
Respectfully, Patrick Coddou of Supply Provision Co. disagrees with the noted concept. Interested in learning more about the available razor options and aiming to find a razor that fit his needs, Patrick and his friend launched a blog covering razors a little over two years ago. However, as the two reviewed and tried many different razor, none of them really stuck out from the crowd. This led Patrick, a mechanical engineer, to design his own ideal razor.
Focusing on simplicity, Patrick wanted to create a razor that provided the same quality of a single blade shave, with a modernized look. When I spoke to Patrick, he stated the process to do so was not easy, as he had to go through a dozen of prototypes to get to the final product, The Single Edge. Now, he's ready to bring the idea to life, as he is tapping into the Kickstarter crowd to fund the first batch of manufacturing.
As he explained, “We've completely reimagined the vintage safety razor - making one that is intuitive, easy to use, and adjustable to your needs.” Its stainless steel gives The Single Edge the quality and style to last for a long period of time. Every razor comes with a magazine of 20 easily changeable single blades, which can last you up to 6 months or more. Backers looking for a deeper shave have the option to choose a customized reward, which comes with three interchangeable blade settings.
During our conversation, Patrick talked about the vision for The Single Edge and the pursuit of growing the brand. In the future, we may see the line extend to brushes and shaving soaps, fully providing the end user with a complete shaving experience. For now, Patrick wants to get the razor off the ground and running, giving it full focus, instead of thinning his attention on multiple items.
With the success that The Single Edge has seen so far, it’s apparent that many backers are searching for a better shaving experience. Shinning further light on the single blade experience, Patrick and his team have delivered an item that has the potential to meet the criteria of today’s razor needs.
Overall, delivering a smooth shave POPs.
