New York City; home of budding designers, impatient taxi drivers, spectacular Broadway shows and the best notebooks—well maybe it’s not known for notebooks—or at least not yet. However, one of these budding designers, Joey Cofone, was in search for just that—the best notebook. After faile d attempts and extensive searches he decided to fill the void with the Baron Fig.
“Sketchbooks & notebooks designed with an underlying philosophy of simplicity, usefulness & community.” The Baron Fig is a notebook that binds together the desired qualities and functionality of the practice of note keeping. The idea was born from a question. What is needed in a notebook? That question was asked around the world to note keepers from varied backgrounds, cultures and professions. And from that question presented to those note keepers came an even more diversified array of feedback, comforts, concerns and ideas.
Some of these key enhancements include a discrete spine which allows the book to lay completely flat—maximizing usable space on each page. The Baron Fig provides the option of blank, ruled or dotted grid pages. Moreover, the pages are scaled to be a smidge wider than the average notebook. And if you still need more creative real estate be comforted in the fact that there are 192 pages, including 12 with perforations (for the errant thought).
So what? Big deal? It is a just another notebook in a sea of notebooks! The Freshpreneur couldn’t disagree more and gives this idea a POP for two reasons. 1) The product is positioned well and 2) simplicity. To elaborate on the first point—positioning—this notebook is for the thinker, the creator, the author. The book itself is not the selling point but the ideas that are contained therein. Creativity is often fleeting and therefore needs a place to reside. The Baron Fig is for those who already identify themselves as an artist yet for a lack of better options are using other means to transcribe their creative genius. This is where simplicity is exalted. The no-frills design does not detract from the user experience. It serves as a conduit through which creativity and note taking is unfettered. Not only that but the audacity to create a stand-out notebook—alone—POPs.
