Couple of weeks ago, I did a post about a creative project, Altered Egos, in which it reimagined the lives of famous historical figures in a different manner. One of the historical figures portrayed was Nikola Tesla.
Tesla, an incredible mind and innovator, is usually absent in the history books. For the most part, the accolades are given to his competitor, Thomas Edison, for his contributions and the impact that he had on our lives. What isn't noted is the fact that Tesla's rivalry played a crucial part in Edison's development of advanced technology.
Recently, Nikola Tesla's life and achievements have grasped the attention of many, including the graduate students of Savannah College of Art & Design. Lead by Sidney Reed, the crew is currently producing a film "which chronicles Nikola Tesla's greatest achievements and struggles." As the focal point of their thesis project, their objective is to introduce a film that will capture the life of an important historical figure.
With the script completed back in December and the filming concluding in May, The Tesla Film is currently in it's last stage of production. As noted by the crew, "This biopic film reveals the truth about who invented what, the praise and criticism Tesla faced over his long life, and the way he completely changed the world’s knowledge of technology at the time."
During my conversation with Sidney, she noted that the team is utilizing crowdfunding as a tool to raise the appropriate amount of funds needed to complete the project. Considering the substantial cost of developing an entire film, Sidney's The Tesla Film will contain the pilot of the movie, in addition to captured theatrical footage.
She expressed that her goal is to enter the current product into film festivals around the country and test the interest level of the public. By doing so, she's aiming to draw enough attention from Tesla fans in order to develop the entire film down the road.
Nikola Tesla's name has begun to draw quite a bit of attention over the past few years, especially with the production of Elon Musk's Tesla Motors. It's also important to note that not too long ago, a crowdfunding campaign raised enough funds to convert a Tesla laboratory in New York into a museum. With word spreading like wildfire, The Tesla Film has the potential of getting the support it needs to bring the full movie to life.
It's imperative to look back in history and learn about the group of individuals that made breakthrough advancements, revolutionizing the world to its current state. It's just as important to acknowledge all of the key players and their contributions, rather than leaving them out. Nikola Tesla's impact is just as big as his competitors, and Sidney's film will help paint that picture.
Overall, dedicating a thesis project to portray the life of Nikola Tesla POPs.
