Not the best way to start out a post, but I want you to take a minute and think about one or two simple items that you possess, specifically the ones you may take for granted. If you take a step back and think about it, more than a couple of items may come to mind.
We use countless everyday items, that in many cases, we wouldn't think about not having. However, what may not seem much to us, may mean a substantial amount to others.
For example, when we talk about going to school, having a backpack is at the core what a student needs. For us, it's not whether or not we have one, but rather what brand, color, superhero, etc. it is. Unfortunately, that's not the case for some school children.
Recognizing the importance of a backpack needed for school, Freshpreneur's very own Justin Rogers, an English teacher residing in Vietnam, and his team are working on a project that aims to provide backpacks for kids in need. Currently, they are in the process of running an Indiegogo campaign, hoping to raise enough funds, so that they can provide one of the most basic needs for 300 grade school students.
This past December, the local non-profit organization called Project Sprouts, in conjunction with community support as well as that of the Ban Phuc Nickel Mine, was able to successfully deliver schooling materials to over 200 students in the province of Son La, Vietnam. Now they are taking on the challenge of providing backpacks, filled with needed supplies, for 300 deserving students.
As explained, "Many of the families in this hillside community live on less than $1 a day and often lack even the most basic of necessities." Therefore it's easy to see that a small contribution ($10 = one backpack with supplies) can go a long way.
However, Project Sprout doesn't want to stop there. As Justin notes, "Our aim is also to promote sustainability. If we are able to meet our goal, we want to go a few steps further. Many of the schools lack proper sanitary conditions. For this reason, we plan to build a four-person restroom (two toilets for girls and two for boys) for a school in need. This would help establish a safe and clean environment conducive to learning. "
It's no secret that I'm biased towards this project, as supporting Justin is a no-brainer for me. However, I also understand the importance of an education. I value the impact it has. When it comes to an educational experience, a backpack is at the core of the necessary supplies needed. Project Sprout is making a difference by providing a simple item, which affects the students on a higher level.
With 68% of the project funded at the time this segment was written, I am ecstatic to see the support that this cause is experiencing. Potentially, not only will Project Sprout be able to provide backpacks for 300 students, but also have the opportunity to build a restroom for a school in need.
When it comes to making a difference, every small step counts. A vision doesn't have to be globally scaled to make an impact. At the end of the day, it's about the lives we touch, whether that's a single soul, or a million. It's about the smiles and the joy that we create. It's about the stage where we give, expecting nothing in return. It's about understanding that this world, this life, this moment, is not about self-serving, rather the complete opposite. Justin and his team are on a mission to impact lives, and I can't wait to see the difference they make for these students.
Overall, the pursuit of providing school supplies for students in need POPs.
