Lights. Party. Action. This week I would like to introduce you to a device that is sure to be a success at your next party but first let me introduce to you the team behind it.
Andreas Haase and business partner Jack Cheng had been toying with an idea inspired by Haase’s daughter’s affinity with lights and music. The original idea was released on Kickstarter earlier this year but did not get the traction necessary to bring it to market. Now with essential product design changes and a campaign nearing 70% backing Haase and Cheng are seeing light at the end of this tunnel.
“The biggest challenge is getting the word out and the traction. As you are aware getting a product visibility with customers takes hard work and a lot of PR. We use social media like Facebook, Twitter and the like for getting our message across and are terribly excited when we get picked up with the press to help spread the word further and reach a bigger audience,” says Haase.
The device is called Optical Musical Object (OMO). It pairs with your smart device via Bluetooth to play your music while providing a light show. OMO is battery operated and can support light and sound emission for up to eight hours. The light can be customized to certain colors or even from where it emits (top, middle, bottom). OMO also serves as a charging station for your devices up to two at a time.
“When we showed the product to friends and family they loved the OMO,” explained Haase. Perhaps the best part of the OMO is that it is waterproof and floats. With OMO floating over the water and its light refracted throughout pool time just got a lot better. As an added benefit multiple OMOs can be paired up with the same device amplifying the fun.
OMO comes in black, white, lime and fuchsia and can be backed for $129.
OMO falls under the larger brand of Raptor Creative. When asked about the long-term future of OMO and its role within Raptor Creative Haase commented with the following. “We will evolve the product adding new and cool technologies that would keep the OMO relevant to its customers. Just like cell phones evolved into smart phones, perhaps there is a place for a smart OMO.”
Whether OMO becomes smart or not current design POPs.
