Socks. We all have them. We all wear them. We all hate sorting them. Can you feel me on this one? Well today’s POP features a Freshpreneur who just couldn’t put up with the sock-sorting frustration anymore. His name is Evgenij Valentinovic Klenin. Evgenij was sitting in front of a massive pile of 74 socks in bewilderment in late 2013. Rather than painstakingly pairing them he began to sketch ways to simplify this conundrum. Also in the room was Han Zhang, now a business partner. She snagged the pen and drew up a simple solution—and that was how the Socker was born.
It wasn’t long after that the Socker began to take shape. “The next month I quit my job to realize this great idea”, said Evgenij.
When asked what the long-term vision and focus would be for Socker, Evgenij quipped, “Very simple; we will be working our way into each market where people regularly wear socks”. Undoubtedly the folks at Socker have their eyes on becoming a household brand known and loved by all.
The campaign itself has been a bit of a learning curve for the team. As with most Freshpreneurs, they had to wade through the logistics of manufacturing. There were delays that dominoed into other areas causing setbacks and eventually a postponed launch on Kickstarter. However it was resolved and invaluable experiences were had.
“The great thing about preparing and running this project is the opportunity to meet and work with incredibly talented people. Regardless of the outcome, I think we have amassed an extremely useful book of contacts for any developments that await us with Socker or any other challenge”
Back this project so that you can POP your socks into a Socker.
Socker’s Kickstarter Campaign Page
The silicone lifesaver--Socker—can hold up to 16 socks (eight pairs) and comes in one of four colors: red, white, navy blue, and green. A fifth color will also be available for backers to vote on. The Socker is heat resistant up to 220 degrees Celsius—safe for any washer or dryer. This means that you can wash and then dry your socks without any sorting! Not only that, but they will ready to wear and organized. You only need to place them in a drawer or hang them in the closet.
Socker can be used in a variety of ways. It can be hung on a door knob with the built-in handle or it can be attached to a hanger with its snap straps. It can also be attached to another Socker and then draped over a clothes rod in the closet.
The Socker is meant to keep dirty socks organized and ready for cleaning, as well as keep fresh pairs organized ready for wearing. All of this is to save you time wasted on sorting, not to mention safeguarding your socks from the eternal stag party of unmatched socks. If you ever find that party let me know. I know that I have donated dozens single socks over the years.
