Work. Not one of the first things that come to mind when one thinks of California. No, not with labor unions, beach bums and Hollywood. However, young Stephen Walden of Manhattan Beach, California would like to bury that notion with the all new Ergonomic Shovel. The Ergonomic Shovel is the main stay of the entrepreneur's start-up—Bosse Tools. The business idea was presented in the 2013 LeanModel Startup Business Plan Competition at San Diego State University and has garnered notice and accolades.
Bosse Tools has three Shovels: the flathead, the spade, and the snow shovel. Each is ergonomically designed, that is, intended to maximize productivity by reducing operator fatigue and discomfort. Its second handle rotates and locks to the degree that best suits the task at hand or the user's preference. It allows for a full 360 degree rotation. The base of the tool has a U-shaped foothold that allows better torque and control when digging. The limited early-bird special for any of these shovels is $59 while supplies last. Bosse Tools came to Kickstarter to raise funds for the manufacturing of the post-prototype models. They need $60,000 to do this.
Shoveling can be some of the most laborious work and the pain can be felt for days after, especially in the back and shoulders. The ingenious design of the Ergonomic Shovel alleviates such pain by improving posture and allowing for a more natural grasp of the tool. With lower back pain on the rise in the US, the demand for ergonomic products is also.
The fact that Stephen Walden has introduced such a powerful alteration of the shovel with simple yet key changes leaves The Freshpreneur wondering what other modifications are on the horizon with Bosse Tools. We love to spotlight such entrepreneurs with fresh ideas (freshpreneurs). The world is full of products and ideas and often times a simple modification reestablishes expectations.
